The blog is BACK!

Hey guys. Sorry it has been so long but the summer left me far away from my computer and so I never got a chance to finish my guitar blog. So here is me finishing my guitar.... Hopefully I can remember all the details.
---
After I repaired the crack, I continued to spray coats of lacquer on the guitar.

After the final coats of 40% reduced lacquer, the first thing I did was carefully remove the tape from the fingerboard. I had to cut it off or else I could have pulled off all the coats of fresh lacquer.

Next I removed the tape from where my bridge would be placed.

next I measured out where the saddle High and Low E strings would sit so that I could decide the saddle placement.

Next I taped off the precise placement of the bridge using a square to make sure it was square to the body.

I used 3 layers of tape so that the bridge would easily sit still while gluing.

The bridge is slightly larger that the taped off area... I bevel the lacquer with my scraper.

Next I glued on the bridge using the caul that I made in the second week of building. My friend Daedelus was amazed by my gluing abilities.

Next I used a reamer to fit the tuning machines into the holes so that they would turn smoothly.

I used a hand drill to drill holes for the screws on the tuning machines.

After the bridge was glued on I taped off the the exact area that I wanted the saddle to be.

Then I used the saddle slot jig, the same one I used to route the slotted headstock, to route the saddle slot.

Next I drilled pilot holes where the bridge pins would be placed

and reamed the holes to fit the bridge pins.

Next I made a saddle for the guitar.

And I strung it up.

The whole experience was tremendous. From designed the guitar to the finished product... it was definately one of the coolest things I have ever done. PLaying the guitar for the first time gave me chills and I will never forget it.
---
I finished the guitar the day before the guitar show... and even though I really wanted to played it, I spent a lot of time relaxed and playing ping-pong with the others who finished.

Including our teacher David Vincent who is quite the player.

The rest of the day was spent listening to others play their guitar for the first time.

Jon "the Hurricane" Herr

Daedelus

Blake Needham went skateboarding after his guitar was finished and found a turtle that matched his headstock... its probably protected.

Here is JJ finishing his saddle and eating his pick.

Bob Murphy... I have never seen him so happy... in fact I dont think I ever saw him happy at all.

Some students in the earlier construction spent some extra time on inlay.

Next came the Guitar show. Thanks to everyone who made it.

There were 3 professional players who played the instrument.

My favortie performer was Canadave who had to play his own left handed guitar.

Here is a shot from my point of view when I presented my guitar to be played.

The performer who played my guitar was a finger style player named Phil Heywood. He is amazing and my guitar will never sound so good. Hopefully I will hae the video of him playing it uploaded soon.

One more shot of Bob Murphy... he is very engaged in Chris Scheifelbeins speech.

When the show was over we said our goodbyes and I returned home to find my guitar cake that my roomies made me. delicious.

Keep checking out the blog for my violing construction COMING SOON!!!!!!

It was great to see how you redeemed your fallen guitar! My favorite photo was the one with the turtle, though. I hope you'll keep up the blog. - Katryn - the original SE Music Site webmaster

Lily and I just checked out your blog. She loves it. She understood that you were making a guitar in the pictures, but she wanted to see more pictures of her Uncle Matthew!
