So to re-cap. I broke my guitar when I was removing it from the spray booth. The booth gets a little chaotic because of all the instr. that are going in and out. My teachers allowed me to come in and work on the crack during one of the other construction classes.
So I glued the cleats on the inside of the guitar to help strengthen the cracks. Here is a picture of them using a mirror.
The long cracks look great but there is still an area that is smashed. I found most of the pieces of the smashed area but to put them all back in wouldnt be practical... especially during the current time crunch. Also this part of the guitar needs to be structurally strong.
So I consulted with my teacher Brian. This is brian teaching and me studenting.
So I Chiseled out the area. I did this at an angle making sort of a ramp.
Next I found a similar piece of spruce from my spare top wood. and I spent the next 5 hours fitting it to the area.
Once it fit I used plexi glass and some violin spool clamps toglue the piece in.
The piece went in beautifully.
Next I glued the binding on to the new spruce.
I had a few small gaps
but I did some burn ins to fill them.
Then I sanded the area out and began spraying lacquer again.
Its not totally invisible but its pretty unnoticable in person.... and in case you forgot... this is what it looked like originally. I am pretty satisfied.
